FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

These are frequently asked questions about our products and about us.

WHAT IS DESICCANT ?

A Desiccant is a dehumidifying agent which attracts moisture from the atmosphere. It adsorbs and holds particles of water to itself.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF DESICCANTS YOU ARE SERVING ?

We have more than three products which are followd by

  • Container Desiccants,
  • Oxygen Absorbers,
  • Clay Desiccants,
  • Sorbdry Desiccants or Desiccant Packets.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT SIZES OF PACKING AVAILABLE ?

Desiccants are available in various forms from 10 gms packets to 2 kg bags which will suit the customer requirements.

HOW THE DESICCANTS ARE USED ?

  • Desiccants are used to reduce the moisture inside packaging. A number of approaches and design options are available. For instance a desiccant stopper can be used as a closure for tablets tubes. Desiccants can also be integrated in other closure formats, such as screw closures.
  • Desiccants can further be filled into capsules, which are used in bottles or containers. Alternatively, a desiccant chamber can be designed within the packaging to provide in situ moisture protection.

HOW MUCH DESICCANT DO I NEED ?

The amount of desiccant that you require really depends on a number of factors, such as:

  • What items need protecting?
  • Which kind of desiccant will you be using?
  • How long does the product need to be protected?
  • What is the volume of air space to be desiccated?
  • Is there going to be moisture surrounding the package?
  • What are the atmospheric conditions?

Temperature and relative humidity are the critical components that make up atmospheric conditions. Both of these factors relate to when and where the product was sealed, as well as the relevant condition in shipment and storage.

WHAT IS DMF ?

Dimethylformamide is an organic compound with the formula. Commonly abbreviated as DMF (although this initialism is sometimes used for dimethylfuran, or dimethyl fumarate), this colourless liquid is miscible with water and the majority of organic liquids. DMF is a common solvent for chemical reactions. Dimethylformamide is odorless whereas technical grade or degraded samples often have a fishy smell due to impurity of dimethylamine. Dimethylamine degradation impurities can be removed by sparging degraded samples with an inert gas such as argon or by sonicating the samples under reduced pressure. As its name indicates, it is a derivative of formamide, the amide of formic acid. DMF is a polar (hydrophilic) aprotic solvent with a high boiling point. It facilitates reactions that follow polar mechanisms, such as SN2 reactions.

CAN I REUSE THE DESICCANTS ?

Desiccants are made for one time use only. Because of changing its state itself we cant use desiccants more than one time.

WHAT ARE ADVANTAGES OF YOUR DESICCANT OVER OTHERS ?

We are producing desiccants with absorption capacity of more than 200%. And we have the best in class product which is DMF free.

IS IT SAFE TO USE ?

Yes. It is safe to use with bare hands even with out the packing. Caution, its not for eating.

HOW DO I DISPOSE THE DESICCANTS ?

You can dispose the desiccants after use as a normal waste. It is not hazardous.

WHAT I AM LOOKING IS NOT IN THE FAQ PAGE THEN WHERE SHOULD I GO ?

You can contact us anytime by mail or phone to know more about what you really wanted.

WHAT IS RELATIVE HUMIDITY (RH) ?

Relative humidity RH is a standard measure for the amount of moisture in the air at a particular temperature. It is defined as follows for a given volume of air:

current amount of moisture in the air volume

----------------------------------------------------------------------- x 100%

maximum amount of moisture possible

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS CAUSED BY MOISTURE ?

Moisture in containers causes problems such as mold, fungus, mildew, rust decay, lumping, caking, agglomeration, and decomposition. Moisture can also cause electronics to malfunction.

HOW DO I EXPERIENCE MOISTURE PROBLEMS EVENTHOUGH I TIGHTLY SEAL MY CONTAINERS IN VERY DRY PLACE ?

If there are still moisture problems, we can easily say that the number of units per containers currently is not sufficient and it is advisable to increase the units per container. There are many factors for bigger amounts of moisture inside the container.

WHAT IS A MOISTURE ?

Moisture is the presence of a liquid, especially water, often in trace amounts. Small amounts of water may be found, for example, in the air (humidity), in foods, and in various commercial products. Moisture also refers to the amount of water vapour present in the air.

DOES IT MAKE A LOT DIFFERENCE THAT MY COCOA BEANS HAVE A MOISTURE CONTENT OF 8% INSTEAD OF 7% ?

One percent more or less doesn’t make a difference, especially not when the MC is on the lower side.

MY CONTAINERS ARE STUFFED TILL THE TOP. CAN YOUR DESICCANT STILL BE USEFUL ?

It seems that there is almost no free air in the container, while there is actually a lot of free air between the products, and our desiccants absorbs the moisture in that air and prevents condensation.
